"Yolotl - La Lotería" is a homage to the country that I will forever call my home: Mexico.
La loteria mexicana
I present Mexico from an unknown side to many people through my own interpretation of the popular Mexican card game “La lotería” and an accompanying book. With "Yolotl - La Lotería" young and old can learn more about Mexico in a playful way and fall in love with it.
Look & Feel
The color scheme of this project is inspired on the Mexican folk art and its craftsmanship, therefore is so rich and colorful. For me, the Mexican craftsmanship and their colors are one of the most impressive things about Mexico. The main goal is to reflect the immense energy and joy for the life of the Mexican culture.
PLAYING CARDS
The wide cultural spectrum and the joy of life in the country are presented in a total of 54 self-illustrated playing cards. The backgrounds and stories of the individual motifs are explained in short texts in the book.
The illustrations of the chosen motifs show, among other things, famous personalities, important traditions and some delicacies from Mexican cuisine. The illustrations have the character of Mexican handcrafts, due to their small details and the special frame, based on the typical Mexican folk art "Nichos Mexicanos", what makes every card unique and none is the same as the other. Each illustration was created with Procreate and an iPad.
BOOK
In the book you can find information about the motifs of the cards, which are divided in 6 themes: religion, Mexican cuisine, flora & fauna, festivities, folklore and famous Mexican personalities.
